Al-Taj News – Against the backdrop of mutual accusations and exchanges between them on social media, Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation announced a two-month ban on appearances by presenters Reham Saeed and Yasmine El-Khatib.
In a statement issued Thursday, the council announced that its members, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, approved the recommendations of the Complaints Committee to require all media outlets subject to the provisions of Law No. 180 of 2018 to ban the two well-known presenters, Reham Saeed and Yasmine El-Khatib, from appearing for two months, following an investigation into the mutual complaints submitted by each of them.
The statement added that the council’s General Monitoring Department had monitored exchanges between the two presenters through their social media accounts, in a manner inconsistent with societal values and standards and the professional principles governing media work.
Media professionals’ responsibility extends to social media
The council stressed that professional responsibility is not limited to what media professionals present through various media outlets, but also extends to what they publish or share through their social media accounts, as these are considered part of the public sphere, which requires adherence to professional rules and respect for the nature of media work and the standards it imposes on speech and conduct, in a manner that preserves the standing of the profession and respect for the public.
